1. Introduction

This policy outlines the commitment of the London School of Business & Education Ltd (LSBE), a company registered in England & Wales (Company Number: 12838732), to providing reliable, fair, and transparent assessment processes.

Assessments serve as a key element in the learning and teaching process by measuring student achievement and providing diagnostic insights to both students and instructors, ensuring ongoing improvement in education delivery.

2. Principles of Assessment

All assessments conducted by LSBE must:

  • Be reliable, ensuring consistent decision-making across the organization.

  • Be transparent, with clear criteria and methods communicated to students, staff, and external auditors.

  • Adhere to LSBE’s or the awarding body’s published criteria and standards.

Fair Assessment

Fairness in assessment is ensured by:

  1. Clear Standards: Assessments are based on clearly defined standards outlined in marking or assessment schemes, reflecting the required skills, knowledge, and understanding.

  2. Appropriate Methods: Assessment formats and methods are suitable for the qualification and comply with awarding body specifications.

  3. Bias-Free Content: Assessment materials are presented in clear language, free from discrimination, and differentiated solely based on a student’s knowledge, skills, and understanding.

  4. Qualified Staff: Professors, instructors, and assessors are appropriately qualified or experienced for the units they assess, and they maintain their competence through regular professional development.

3. Assessment and Internal Verification Process

3.1 Assessment

  • Qualified Assessors: Assessments are conducted by qualified and/or experienced LSBE assessors.

  • Adherence to Guidelines: Assessors follow LSBE and awarding body requirements using assessment criteria outlined in program or course specifications.

3.2 Internal Verification

Internal verification is a critical quality assurance process designed to ensure that:

  • Assessments are accurate, valid, and completed on time.

  • Certification accurately reflects student achievement.

The IQA Quality Manager/Verifier ensures compliance with LSBE and awarding body guidelines to maintain assessment integrity.

Internal Verification Involves:

  1. Pre-Use Assignment Checks: Assignment briefs are checked against unit specifications before being used, with feedback provided to improve them where necessary.

  2. Accuracy Monitoring: Assessors’ decisions are monitored for every unit, and feedback with an action plan is provided when needed.

  3. Verification Records: Procedures and records are completed on time for units being sampled by external verifiers.

  4. Coverage Assurance: For units assessed through multiple assignments, matrices ensure all criteria are covered.

4. Evidence and Recording

  • Documentation: Evidence of the internal verification process is maintained and made available for review.

  • Practical Assessments: Where applicable, practical assessments may be formally recorded for verification purposes.
